INTER COUNTY FINALS 2018
After the snow of March we eventually held the Finals at Vauxhall Holiday Park on 18th to 20th May, commencing with the Seniors section.
Surrey, Berkshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire A, and Norfolk all had fairly comfortable wins in the last sixteen, but Wiltshire, and West Midlands A both had narrow 13-11 victories.
In the Quarter Finals Wiltshire made a great start going 5-0 ahead, but Lincs hit back, to take an 8-7 lead at the end of the third session. Wiltshire then won four frames in a row in the next session, and ran out 13-10 winners. Surrey had a comfortable 13-7 win over Berkshire, and Leics beat Warwick 13-9. In the other match West Mids went 6-4 ahead against Norfolk, but Norfolk then won seven of the next ten to lead 11-9 into the final session where Shaun Eaton-Lees, and Sharon James won the final two frames to snatch a 13-12 victory.
In the semi's Leics beat West Mids 13-7, and Wiltshire beat Surrey 13-10.
The Final was rather easier than anticipated as Wiltshire ran out 13-7 winners.
SENIORS KO CUP
In the KO Cup Staffs B had to win the final two frames to overcome Hertfordshire 13-12 and West Yorkshire had to win the last three to beat Cornwall B 13-12. Cornwall, and Lancs also went through. Cornwall A then beat Norfolk 13-8, Warwickshire A beat Lancs 13-4, Lincs beat Staffs 13-9, and West Yorks beat Berkshire 13-8 to go through to the semi's.
Cornwall A were made to fight all the way before defeating Lincs 13-10, and Warwicks A beat West Yorks 13-8.
In the Final a strong West Yorks team beat Corwall A 13-5.
MEN'S B INTERCOUNTY
Friday evening saw the start of the Men's B section, and the closest match was between West Yorks and Somerset which went to the penultimate frame before West Yorks secured a 23-20 win. Cornwall beat West Midlands 23-17, Essex beat Derby 23-19, Leics beat Berkshire 23-16, London won 23-13 against Northants, Warwicks beat Beds 23-15, Staffs beat neighbours Cheshire 23-8, and Cleveland won 23-15 against Gloucs.
In the Quarter Finals Cleveland, and Essex finished level, and in the play-off John Bourne and Nathan Beevers both won their frames to see Cleveland through 24-22, London beat Cornwall 23-17. In a very close match West Yorks just edged Leics out 23-20, and Staffs had a comfortable 23-8 victory over Warwicks
In the semi's West Yorks beat London 23-17, and Staffs beat Cleveland 23-11.
The final saw Staffs take the first two legs 6-5, but West Yorks took the third leg by the same score to trail by one into the final leg. Although West Yorks won two of the first three frames to level, Staffs won five in a row to lift the title for the eleventh time to win 23-19.
MEN''S B KO CUP
In the KO Cup Northants beat West Mids 23-20, Berkshire beat Somerset 23-16, Cheshire won 23-17 against Beds, and Derbyshire beat Gloucs 23-10.
Essex then beat Cheshire 23-16, Derby beat Warwick 23-13, Leics won 23-19 against Northants, and in a play-off Russell Moore won one for Cornwall, but Maurice Sheehan and Sukhveer Singh won the other two to put Berkshire through 24-23.
In the semi-finals Leics beat Essex, and Derbyshire beat Berkshire both 23-17.
In a terrific Region Eight final Leics stormed into a 9-2 first leg win, but Derbyshire edged their way back into the match with a 6-5 second leg win, and then took the third leg 7-4 to trail by three into the final leg. Another 7-4 leg win pulled the scores level. Toby Vernon won a frame for Leics, but Rob Titchener, and Alex Molloy won the other two for Derbyshire to win 24-23.
Unfortunately we were two teams short in the Ladies Section. Lancashire and Cornwall received the byes. Bedfordshire made a strong start beating Sussex 23-6, and Kent won 23-7 against West Yorks. Leics won the first two legs 6-5 against Staffs, but then lost the third leg 7-4, and Staffs went on to win 23-19. In another close match South Yorks went through 23-21 against Somerset and West Midlands won the final frame for a 23-21 win over Northants. Cheshire beat Essex 23-12.
In the Quarter Finals Cornwall, and Cheshire finished 22 all. Stacey Hancock, and Nicky Moore saw Cornwall through 24-22. Another play-off and Emily Watson won for West Mids, but Heidi Clyde, and Tanisha Beckford won the other two for Beds to win 24-23. South Yorks beat Staffs 23-20, and Lancs beat Kent 23-18.
In the semi final Lancashire led all the way and were 18-15 ahead into the final leg, but South Yorks took the last leg 7-4 to level the scores, and although Sharon Lunn won a frame for South Yorks, Lindsay Lloyd, and Anne Roccia won the other two for Lancashire to win 24-23. The other semi Beds beat Cornwall 23-15.
The final was an anti climax as Lancashire ran away winners 23-7.
LADIES KO CUP
In the Cup West Yorks and Essex received the byes. Jo Kent, and Katie Smith won in the play off for Sussex to beat Northants 24-22, Somerset beat Leics 23-20, Kent then beat Somerset 23-14, Staffs beat West Yorks 23-13, Cheshire won 23-11 against Sussex, and Essex beat West Mids 23-20.
In the semi finals Kent beat Cheshire 23-11, and Staffs beat Essex 23-15.
In the Final Kent were never really troubled as they beat Staffs 23-10.
Unfortunately in the Junior section the date clashed with exams around the Country, and we finished three teams short. Kent, London, and Warwickshire received the byes. The match between Nottinghamshire and Norfolk turned into a real battle. Notts won the first three legs 6-5, only for Norfolk to win the last leg 7-4 to tie the scores. Dominic Camara and Dominic D'sa won two of the frames in the play-off to give Notts the 24-22 win. The Essex-Somerset match swung wildly as Essex won the first leg 9-2, then Somerset won the second 8-3, and the third 6-5, but Essex held on to win the match 23-20. Leicestershire beat Cambridgeshire 23-11. Another close match saw Staffordshire beat Bristol 23-20, Sussex won 23-19 against West Midlands.
In the Quarter Finals Warwicks won the first leg 8-3, but Sussex took the second 6-5, and then won the third 7-4 to trail by one. Sussex won the final leg 6-5 to level the scores. Jordan Green took a frame for Sussex, but Bradley Harrison, and Jack Schofield won the other two for Warwicks to win 24-23. Leics had a comfortable 23-9 win over Essex, as did Kent who won 23-8 against Staffs. London had a narrow 23-20 win over Nottinghamshire.
In the semi finals Kent beat fellow Region Seven team London 23-19, and Warwicks were pushed all the way before beating Leics 23-21.
In the final Warwicks edged the first leg 6-5 but Kent reversed the score in the second. Back came Warwicks for another 6-5 in the third leg, and they repeated the score in the final leg for a 23-21 victory.
JUNIOR KO CUP
In the KO Cup Somerset beat Cambs 23-14, but then lost to Sussex 23-7 in the quarters. West Mids beat Essex 23-7, Bristol won 23-16 against Notts, and in the other match another play-off had Jordan Brookes and Bradley Peach winning for Staffs against Norfolk for a 24-22 win.
In the semi's Sussex won 23-11 against Bristol, and West Mids beat Staffs 23-14.
The Final saw West Midlands lead all the way to a 23-17 victory.
MEN'S A INTERCOUNTY
In the Men's A section there were several close matches. West Midlands won 23-20 against Cornwall, Lancashire were pushed all the way by Kent before winning 23-21, Leicestershire edged out Essex 23-20, Hertfordshire won 23-21 against South Yorkshire, Berkshire beat West Yorkshire 23-16,Norfolk beat Northants 23-11, Staffs beat Gloucestershire 23-12, Cambridgeshire, and Nottinghamshire finished level
Bobby Fenton, and Liam Stanley won for Notts, and John Roe for Cambs for a 23-24 result.
In the Quarters Leics beat Notts 23-6, Staffs beat Herts 23-12, Berkshire won 23-17 against Lancashire, and West Mids beat Norfolk 23-18.
In the semi's Berkshire won 23-17 against Staffs, and Leics won 23-17 against West Mids.
In the final Leics took the first leg 6-5, but Berkshire won the second leg 7-4. The third leg Leics had another 6-5 win, but trailed by one going into the final leg, and it was Berkshire who won six of the nine frames played to triumph 23-19.
MEN'S A KO CUP
In the Cup West Yorks beat Kent 23-14, and South Yorks beat Gloucs 23-15, Northants won 23-15 against Cornwall, and Essex beat Cambs 23-20. Essex then beat another Region four team Norfolk 23-15, Notts won 23-18 against Northants, West Yorks beat Herts 23-17, and Lancs won 23-21 against South Yorks.
In the semi finals West Yorks and Nottinghamshire finished 22 all. Ryan Bodsworth won one for West Yorks, but Carl Wilkinson, and Bobby Fenton won two for Notts to go through 24-23. Essex beat Lancs 23-12.
The Final and Essex made a terrific start with an 8-3 first leg win, they followed this with a 6-5 second leg win, but Notts hit back to win the third leg 7-4, but could not stop Essex winning the match 23-19.
