Seniors Intercounty

Nearly thirteen hundred people were at Vauxhall Holiday Park for the all England Inter County Finals over the weekend of 27 February to 1 March 2015. On the Friday it was the turn of the Senior section to start things off, and the first match in Group one saw local team Norfolk beat favoured Dorset 8-6. Kent had a comfortable 8-1 win over Wiltshire; Staffs beat Somerset 8-3, and West Midlands beat Durham 8-2. In Group Two West Yorkshire beat Humberside 8-3, and in a close match Northumberland beat Essex 8-6, and GMC, thanks to Paul Taylor, beat Nottinghamshire 8-7.

In the Quarter Finals Norfolk had another good win over Kent 8-5, West Mids won the Region 3 derby with Staffs 8-5. West Yorkshire with Harris Ali, Yuk San Lee, and Steve Weatherby were looking strong as they saw off Northumberland 8-4, and GMC had another 8-7 win against Sussex, into the semi-finals. West Midlands proved too strong for Norfolk winning 8-2, and GMC had an 8-4 victory over West Yorkshire.

The Final proved an anti-climax as Harry Roberts, Paul Taylor, and David Shand had a runaway win for GMC over West Midlands 8-1.

Seniors KO Cup

In the KO Cup, Dorset had a walkover against Wiltshire, Durham beat Somerset 8-3, Essex beat Humberside by the same score, and Notts beat Northants 8-6. In the quarter finals three of the matches finished 8-7, and the fourth 8-6, Kent, Staffs, Notts won 8-7, and Essex 8-6. The semi's Staffs with Nick Burton, Paul Ward, and Phil Williams beat Essex 8-5, and Notts with Bill Rigby, Shane Robinson, and Olly Brooks beat Kent 8-2. The final proved a real nail biter as Staffs won the first two legs 2-1, but Notts won the third leg 3-0 to take a one point lead. In the fourth leg Anthony Hazeldine came in for Staffs, and they took the leg 3-0 to go within one of victory, but Robinson, and Brooks won the first two in the final leg to level the scores, and it was Hazeldine who won the decider for Staffs to lift the cup.

Mens B Intercounty

Friday evening the Mens B section begins, and in the first round Group one Kent beat Cleveland 23-13, Humberside beat Suffolk 23-14, Derbyshire beat Wiltshire 23-15, and West Midlands beat Berkshire 23-16. Group two saw champions Staffs beat Somerset 23-19, Cornwall beat Northumberland 23-16, Essex beat Cheshire 23-18, and Lancashire edged out Northants 23-21.

In the Quarter Finals Humberside beat Kent 23-21, Derbyshire beat West Mids 23-13, Staffs beat Cornwall 23-20, and Lancs beat Essex 23-14.

The semi-finals, and Humberside beat Derbyshire 23-20, and Lancs beat hot favourites Staffs 23-

Into the final, and Humberside won the first leg by the odd frame 6-5, but Lancs reversed the score in the second leg to level the match. It remained very close down the third leg as each team won four frames in a row, but it was Lancashire who took the leg by the odd frame, back, and forth the score alternated down the final leg, and it finished all square 22 each, so it was a three man play-off ; with Michael Gibney, Colin Finn, and Ashley Underwood for Humberside, and Carl Bromley, Wayne Corless, and Luke Austin for Lancs. Gibney, and Finn took the two frames requires for Humberside to become National B team champions.

Mens B KO Cup

In the KO Cup Suffolk beat Cleveland 23-16, Berkshire beat Wiltshire 23-18, Somerset beat Northumberland 23-15, Northamptonshire beat Cheshire 23-19.

The quarter finals saw a close match with Suffolk beating West Mids 23-20, Berkshire beating Kent 23-14, Essex beat Somerset 23-15 and Cornwall beat Northants 23-14.

The semis saw Region 4 rivals Suffolk against Essex with Essex taking the match 23-12. The other semi saw another close match with Cornwall beating Berkshire 23-20.

Another tight final with Cornwall beating Essex 23-20 and taking the B Section KO Cup title.

Juniors Intercounty

Saturday morning and the other three sections get under-way. The Juniors section were in the games room with half of the matches starting at 9am and the other half at 11am. In group one Bedfordshire beat Somerset 23-18, last years champions Leicestershire made a confident start beating Suffolk 23-9, Bristol beat Staffs 23-18, and Lancashire beat Derbyshire 23-19. In group two Sussex beat Nottinghamshire 23-12, West Midlands beat London by the same score, Merseyside beat Northants 23-15, and Kent beat Warwickshire 23-21.

In the quarter finals Beds took the first leg against the champions by the odd frame, but then lost the second leg 7-4. Beds then took the third by the same score to lead by one into the final leg and the champions won the final two frames to take the match 23-21. It was even closer in the Bristol, Lancs match where they went to a play-off. Aaron Matharu, Jamie Hawkins, and Louis Hatton were up for Bristol, and Sam Leeming, Aaron Cooper, and Murad Iqbal for Lancs, but Matharu, and Hawkins won their frames to give the win to Bristol. West Mids beat Sussex 23-16, and Merseyside beat Kent 23-19.

In the semi's Leicester had a comfortable 23-12 win over Bristol, Merseyside won the first leg 7-4 against West Mids, and then took the next two legs 6-5, but West Mids fought all the way down the final leg, but could not stop their opponents winning the match 23-20.

Unfortunately Merseyside could not keep up their good form in the final, and Leicestershire retained their title with a 23-8 victory.

Juniors KO Cup

In the KO Cup Suffolk beat Somerset 23-20, Derbyshire beat Staffs 23-15, London won 23-8 against Nottinghamshire, and Warwickshire beat Northants 23-14.

The quarter finals saw Lancs beat Suffolk 23-17, Beds beat Derbyshire 23-14, London beat Kent 23-14, and Sussex beat Warwick 23-16.

In the semi-final Lancashire had an easy 23-12 win over London, but in the other match Sussex took a 7-4 lead in the first, Beds won the second 6-5, and then stormed down the third leg with a 9-2 win to lead by five into the final leg. Sussex hit back to win the final leg 9-2 and snatch the match 23-21, in the final they continued their good form to run out winners of the KO Cup 23-21.

Ladies Intercounty

In the Ladies section Group One Hampshire made a good start with a 23-9 win over Somerset, Staffs beat Northumberland 23-8, Cleveland, and GMC went to a play-off where Anne Louise Arkle, and Stacey McConnell won to win the match for Cleveland. Suffolk beat South Yorkshire 23-21. In Group Two Cornwall beat Northants 23-19, Kent beat West Midlands 23-11, Nottinghamshire beat Oxfordshire 23-18, and Norfolk beat Lancashire23-11.

In the quarter finals Hampshire had another good win beating Staffs 23-20, Cleveland saw off Suffolk 23-18, Kent beat Cornwall 23-13, and Notts beat Norfolk 23-12.

In the semi-finals Cleveland saw off Hampshire 23-20, and a big shock in the other semi' as Notts beat hot favourites Kent 23-20.

In the final Notts got off to a flying start taking the first leg 8-3, but Cleveland eased their way back into the match in the second leg with a 6-5 win, and the third leg was won by them 7-4 to trail by just one point into the final leg, where they took the lead by winning the first four frames, but that proved to be their last as Notts won the next six frames to win the match 23-20.

Ladies KO Cup

In the KO Cup Somerset had a comfortable 23-11 win over Northumberland, South Yorks beat GMC 23-12, Northants beat West Mids 23-17, and Lancs beat Oxfordshire 23-10.

In the quarters Somerset beat Suffolk 23-13, South Yorks had a close match with Staffs before going through 23-21, Norfolk beat Northants 23-20, and Lancs beat Cornwall 23-15.

In the semi's Somerset had a runaway win over Norfolk 23-8, and Lancs just edged out South Yorks 23-21.

The final saw Lancashire edge ahead in the first leg by the odd frame 6-5, but Somerset hit back to win the second leg 8-3, and when they won the third leg 6-5 they had a five frame lead going into the final leg, and they won the match 23-17.

Mens A Intercounty

In the Mens A first round West Yorkshire made a good start with a 23- 13 win over Northants, Devon beat West Midlands 23-21, as did Humberside against Bristol. Essex beat Northumberland 23-12, Berkshire beat Nottinghamshire 23-10, Gloucestershire beat Cleveland 23-20, Staffs had an easy 23-11 win over Suffolk, and Lancs beat Surrey 23-18.

In the Quarter Finals Devon beat West Yorks 23-12, Berkshire beat Gloucs 23-13, Essex had a narrow win over Humberside 23-21, and Staffs beat Lancs 23-10.

In the Semi-finals Berkshire beat Devon 23-18, and favourites Staffs beat Essex 23-10.

In the final dark horses Berkshire made the better start, and winning five frames in a row helped them take the first leg 7-4, but Staffs having won this title six times in the past were not a team to worry, and came back in the second leg with their own 7-4 win to level the scores, in a tense third leg it was Berkshire who edged ahead 6-5 to lead by one, but they really turned on the style going down the final leg to win six of the eight frames played to lift the title for the first time 23-18.

Mens A KO Cup

In the KO Cup West Mids beat Northants 23-20, Cleveland beat Notts 23-15, Bristol beat Northumberland 23-17, and Surrey beat Suffolk 23-19.

In the quarters West Mids beat Gloucs 23-15, West Yorks beat Cleveland 23-21, Lancs beat Bristol 23-20, and Surrey beat Humberside 24-22 after a play-off.

The semi's had West Mids beating Lancs 23-17, and Surrey beat West Yorks 23-14.

In the Final West Mids took control of the first leg with a 7-4 win, but Surrey came back with a 6-5 win in the second leg, and then took the lead with a 7-4 win in the third leg. West Mids could do nothing to stop them in the final leg as they won six of the eight frames played to take the title 23-18.
