INTER COUNTY FINALS REPORT 2017

Nearly fourteen hundred attended Vauxhall Holiday Park for the Inter County Finals and England Team Trials.


SENIORS INTERCOUNTY
The Senior Inter County commenced on the Thursday evening. In the first round local team Norfolk beat Leicestershire 13-8, Staffordshire proved too strong for West Yorkshire winning 13-6, West Midlands recorded the same score in beating Lancashire, Northumberland and Wiltshire beat Derbyshire, and Cornwall 13-10 respectively. A close match saw Cleveland edge out Northamptonshire A 13-11, but the closest match had Kent winning the final three frames for a 13-12 win over Nottinghamshire. Surrey were no match for Essex as they went down 13-6.

In the Quarter finals Staffs trounced Norfolk 13-4, and the West Midlands did the same to Northumberland. Essex had a comfortable 13-6 win against Kent, and Wiltshire edged out Cleveland 13-10.

In the semi-finals Wiltshire and Essex were level after the first two sections, but then Essex took control of the match winning seven of the next ten frames to lead 12-8. Steve Adams won the frame to take the match 13-10. In the other semi Staffs and West Midlands also shared the first two legs, but Staffs won the next two legs 3-2, and eventually took the match 13-10.

The Final saw two good teams with Essex winning the first leg 3-2, but Staffs winning the second by the same score. Essex then went ahead with a 4-1 third leg win, but Staffs replied with a 4-1 of their own in leg four. So it was 10-10 into the final leg. Pat Ward and Chris Bowers put Staffs ahead, but Graham Bryan pulled one back for Essex only to see Stuart Jones win to lift the title for Staffordshire 13-11.


SENIORS KO CUP
In the KO Cup West Yorkshire beat Leicestershire 13-8. Kevin Fox and Derek Tolliday won the last two frames for Derbyshire to beat Lancashire 13-12. Yuk San Lee won the final frame to help West Yorks beat Northumberland 13-12. Derbyshire led 12-8 against Norfolk, then saw their opponents win four in a row to level but Phil Connolly won the final frame to see Derbyshire home 13-12. Cornwall overcame Northants 13-9. Notts and Surrey had a real battle before Notts managed to take the final frame through Bill Rigby for another 13-12 result. Cornwall were edged out 13-12 by Kent, and Notts then beat Cleveland 13-8.

In the semis Derbyshire saw off Notts in a local derby 13-8 and West Yorks had a comfortable 13-6 win over Kent. The final saw West Yorks cruise to a 13-8 win.



MEN'S B INTERCOUNTY
Friday evening saw the start of the Mens B section, and reigning champions Staffordshire got off to a good start with a 23-18 win against Gloucestershire. Essex beat GMC 23-15, Berkshire beat Leicestershire 23-20, Devon won 23-17 against Cleveland, Humberside beat West Midlands 23-15, Surrey overcame Cornwall 23-19, West Yorkshire just edged out London 23-21, and Northants beat Bedfordshire 23-13. In the Quarters, Staffs beat Essex 23-19, and Berkshire beat Devon 23-10, Humberside overcame Surrey 23-17, and Northants beat West Yorks 23-15.

In the semis Northants had a comfortable 23-13 win against Humberside, and Staffs beat Berkshire 23-18. In the final Staffordshire were too hot to handle as they won 23-15 to record their tenth win in this section.


MEN'S B KO CUP
In the KO Cup Gloucs had a narrow win over GMC 23-21, Leics swamped Cleveland 23-6, Cornwall beat West Mids 23-17, and London just edged out Beds 23-21.

In the quarters Devon beat Gloucs 23-20, Leics won 23-14 against Essex. Cornwall and West Yorkshire had our first play-off with Jonathan Perrow and Lee Sturtridge winning for Cornwall, and London won the Region Seven derby against Surrey 23-20.

In the semis Cornwall were up against local rivals Devon. Cornwall made a good start and never looked back as they won 23-18. In the other semi the first two legs were shared between London and Leics, but London took the lead in the third and went on to win 23-17.

The final proved a real battle with Cornwall winning the first two legs to lead 13-9, but the third leg saw London storm back with an 8-3 leg win to lead 17-16 into the final leg but Mark Wilson and Paul Cook won the last two frames to give Cornwall a 23-21 victory.



JUNIOR INTERCOUNTY
In the Junior section Leics had a comfortable 23-12 win against West Midlands, Sussex won 23-14 against Northants, Cornwall won 23-19 against Notts, and Bristol toppled Norfolk 23-9. Kent overcame Warwickshire 23-20, and West Yorks beat Cambs 23-17. Last years champions London made a good start with a 23-16 win over Lancs, and Staffs beat Suffolk 23-15.

In the quarters Sussex easily beat Leics 23-15, and then we had a Region Six battle between Cornwall and Bristol where Bristol fought back to level at 22-22. It was Jamie Hawkins and Aidan Murphy who won the play-off to see Bristol through. Kent beat West Yorks 23-10, and London won 23-15 against Staffs.

In the semis Bristol won the first two legs 6-5, but Sussex turned the match around in the third leg with a 7-4 win to lead by one into the final leg. They held on to win 23-21. The other semi finished all square, and Chris Panayiotou and Kieran Osborne won the two frames to put London into the final, but Sussex proved too strong as they won the firs three legs 7-4, 6-5, 6-5, and went on to win the match 23-15.


JUNIOR KO CUP
In the KO Cup West Mids beat Northants 23-17, and Notts beat Norfolk 23-18, Warwickshire beat Cambridgeshire 23-17, and Lancashire beat Suffolk 23-9.

In the quarter finals West Mids beat Cornwall 23-11, Leics won 23-16 against Notts, Lancs beat West Yorks 23-21. The match between Warwickshire and Staffordshire went to a play-off, where Jonnie Biddle won for Warwickshire, but Bradley Peach levelled for Staffs. Jack Griffiths won the third frame to put Warwickshire through.

In the semis Lancashire had a comfortable 23-14 win over Leics. The other semi was very close all the way with West Mids winning the first leg 7-4 only for Warwickshire to level in the second. They then won the third leg 6-5 to edge ahead, and another 6-5 in the final leg saw them through 23-21.

In the final Lancashire took the first two legs 7-4, but Warwickshire hit back with an 8-3 third leg win to trail by one into the final leg, and by winning the final three frames forced a play-off. Jack Giffiths won for Warwickshire, Murad Iqbal levelled, but Jack Schofield won to give Warwickshire a 24-23 win.



LADIES INTERCOUNTY
In the Ladies section Staffordshire beat West Yorkshire 23-18, South Yorkshire won 23-5 against Oxfordshire, Lancashire beat Gloucestershire 23-14, Leicestershire battled out a 22 all draw. In the play-off Sue Fletcher won for Hampshire, but Jade Linhart, and Charlene Smart won to put Leics through 24-23. Devon and West Mids also fought to a draw, Sophie Gibbs-Nicholls won for Devon, but Carrie-Anne Jones, and Sharon James won to put West Mids through 24-23. Last years champions Kent had an easy 23-8 victory over Cleveland, London won 23-10 against Cambs, and Suffolk beat Somerset in a close match 23-21.

In the quarter Finals Staffs won 23-17 against South Yorks, Lancs beat Leics 23-16. Kent were in good form to beat West Mids 23-14, and Suffolk beat London 23-18.

In the semi finals Lancashire were too good for Staffordshire winning 23-18, and Kent looked determined to keep their trophy with a 23-13 win over Suffolk.

The final saw Kent storm away to an 8-3 first leg win, but Lancashire hit back to take the second leg 9-2, the third leg was much closer, but Lancs edged it 6-5, and they went on to lift the title 23-18.


LADIES KO CUP
In the KO Cup West Yorks beat Oxford 23-20, Hampshire won 23-18 against Gloucestershire, Devon saw off Cleveland 23-18, Somerset overcame Cambridgeshire 23-20. In the quarter finals West Yorks won 23-18 against Leics, Hampshire beat South Yorks by the same score, Devon beat London 23-14, and Somerset won 23-19 gainst West Mids.

The semis saw West Yorks beat Devon 23-19, and Somerset won 23-15 against Hampshire.

The final proved a very close affair, and it was no surprise when it finished all square. In the play-off Kate Wringe won for West Yorks, but Kirsten Chinnock, and Samantha Hogg won for Somerset to lift the trophy 24-23.



MEN'S A INTERCOUNTY
In the Mens A section Lancashire beat Bedfordshire 23-19, Devon last years champions won 23-17 against Humberside, Buckinghamshire were beaten by London 23-15, and Gloucestershire lost to Essex 23-18, Berkshire overcame Cleveland 23-13, and Leicestershire beat West Yorkshire by the same score, West Midlands beat Northumberland 23-11, and Staffordshire won 23-15 against Somerset.

In the quarter finals Lancs were too strong for Devon beating them 23-12, Essex beat London 23-14, and Berkshire beat Leicestershire 23-16, Staffs beat West Mids 23-17.

In the semi-finals Lancs were too good for Essex winning 23-16, and Staffs beat Berkshire 23-17.

The final saw Staffs make a strong start winning the first leg 7-4, but Lancs edged the second leg 6-5, they then won six frames in a row to help them take the leg 7-4 for a one frame lead into the final leg and after an even start put four frames together to take the match 23-18.


MEN'S A KO CUP
In the KO Cup Humberside beat Beds 23-20, Bucks won 23-14 against Gloucs, West Yorks won 23-8 against Cleveland, Somerset overcame Northumberland 23-16.

In the quarter Finals London had an easy 23-11 win against Humberside. In a close match Devon came out on top 23-21 against Bucks, West Mids beat West Yorks 23-15, and Leics beat Somerset 23-12.

In the semis West Mids won 23-16 over London, and Leics beat Devon by the same score.

The final saw West Mids edge the first leg 6-5, but Leics hit back to take the second leg 7-4. The match changed on the third leg with West Mids winning seven frames in a row to win the leg 8-3, and although Leics won the final leg 6-5, could not prevent West Mids winning the match 23-21.
