Will your pool team be the ones to pick up the winner’s cheque for £3,000 or one of the many other awards in a prize fund of over £16,000?

We are delighted to relaunch the National Pool Tournament for 2003 / 4, following on from the success of last years tournament, which saw a team from the Penny Black in Sheffield winning the £3,000 prize money for first place, having overcome the Coronation Hotel in Southport.

This year the National Pool Tournament is being sponsored by Boddingtons, and there is a total prize fund of over £16,000 to be won, making this tournament one of the UK’s largest pool events in the country. The tournament, which is open to every pool team in the country, will be played in 378 pubs from the Laurel Pub Company estate. The format will be a 3-person team (4-person squad), with only one player of county standard or above allowed in each team. This will allow players of all levels to compete, whilst still giving a pub player an opportunity to be amongst the prizewinners.

Early rounds will be regionalised to minimise travelling. Winners at local level go through to regional finals to be held at sixteen Laurel pubs across the country. The Grand Final takes place on Sunday 13th June at the Hilton Coventry and the programme includes an exhibition and friendly challenges by a world-class professional player.

All sixteen teams at the final will receive prize monies (minimum of £500) with the champions receiving a cheque for £3,000.

The National Final also includes a special doubles event, open to the losing finalists at the Regional Finals.

The tournament is open to all players (male and female). Players must be at least 18 years of age at the closing date for entry, which is 16th January 2004. Administration will be conducted by the English Pool Association.

Ian Payne Chief Executive comments “We have an enormous passion for sport at Laurel and this tournament is a major event in the sporting programme. Almost 200 Laurel pub teams entered the tournament last year demonstrating that our customers are as passionate about pool as we are”.

The Laurel Pub Company National Pool Team Tournament is one of the most exciting events in the calendar and is a must for all pool players.
